Marion Sommerschuh (her maiden name is Schneider) was born in the Germany city of Mainz in 1961 and discovered already as a child - encouraged
by her parents - her passion for painting. As of 1978/79, she attend courses in watercolour painting in Fort Malakoff in Mainz taught by Toni Brüchert (painter and sculptor). Later on, she successfully extended her skills
autodidactically. She has remained faithful to watercolour painting to this day. Clear lines and generously applied watercolours in red, blue, green and yellow mark her own, unmistakable style of painting which is new in this
form.
Inspired by surrealism, her works show a close connection to nature and, at the same time, represent the free interplay between colour and form. There
is no limit to her imagination. Each of her paintings is divided into single areas – however, when put together it is obvious that they form a whole. Her paintings frequenty show the Tuscany landscape, masks and red curtains
which appear to hide something.
“I love to paint pictures which actually show what they mean, however the motifs don’t exist! Or have you ever seen hands out of which grow paint
brushes? A woman sitting on a bar stool and a tree grows out of her body? No, things like that don’t exist, but in my paintings my imagination becomes alive.”
Marion Sommerschuh presented her works in many individual exhibitions to an art-loving public.
The actor Mario Adorf and the pop art artist Mel Ramos possess each a painting from Marion Schneider.
Since 1999 the artist has been living in Rethen near Hannover.
